“Go out and Play!”
At CrossFit Breakaway our ulitmate goal is to give you the ability to ‘go out and play’. Say to most 7 year olds, ‘Go out and play!” and they don’t think twice, they just go! Their repertoire of what’s fun and exciting to do hasn’t been hampered by inactivity, years behind a desk, an old nagging injury, lack of strength or stamina, that extra 20 lbs or that
underlying feeling that ‘that’s gonna be hard.’ CrossFit’s use of constantly varried, functional movements, executed at a high intensity will put you on the road to doing the things you love to do, and some you never thought you could do, faster than you ever dreamed possible!
This is natural exercise the way the body was designed to move, a mixture of gymnastics styled movements, strength work that utilizes your whole body in proper form and short bouts of endurance training. These short and intense sessions add up to the stronger, leaner, faster athlete that is in every one of us. To paraphrase Coach Greg Glassman of CrossFit, Inc., “These same routines apply to elderly individuals with heart disease, Olympic athletes in training, young athletes just starting out to cage fighters one month out from televised bout. The needs of Olympic athletes and our grandparents differ by degree not kind. Our terrorist hunters, skiers, mountain bike riders and housewives have found their best fitness from the same regimen. We scale load and intensity; we don’t change programs.” This is natural movement and it’s natural to everyone!
Coach Glassman further defines CrossFit, “CrossFit is the principal strength and conditioning program for many police academies and tactical operations teams, military special operations units, champion martial artists, and hundreds of other elite and professional athletes worldwide.
Our program delivers a fitness that is, by design, broad, general, and inclusive. Combat, survival, many sports, and life reward this kind of fitness and, on average, punish the specialist. Our specialty is not specializing.”
I want some! What’s next?
We want you to get out there and play and there are three things we need to concentrate on to get you there: Safety, Efficacy and Efficiency. In order to maximize all three, we require every athlete of every experience level to take our Foundations Class, where you learn how we do things here at Breakaway. Foundations will give you the tools and experience to get the most out of your training while being safe and efficient. After building your foundations you will be ready to join in with confidence and the ability to get it done right! Each class is composed of a half hour of movement instruction and review, approximately 20 minutes of a workout applying your new skills and finishes up with proper cool-down technique, dynamic and static stretching instruction and basic nutritional guidelines on how to fill your years with living!
There are two basic ways to get started at CF Breakaway, start with ‘Foundations 1-on-1′ or sign up for one of our small group Foundations Classes. We STRONGLY RECOMEND 1-on-1 training if:
- you are new to exercise
- you are generally deconditioned after years of inactivity
- you are here by request of your physician or physical therapist
- you are a competitive athlete with specific training/timing needs
- you have compromised health or orthopedic issues
- you would be more comfortable with one on one attention
- you need greater accountability
After you complete your first two Foundations Classes, you can join in on any Workout of The Day Group Class (”WoD”) as scheduled at CF Breakaway. You must complete all your foundations classes in your first month with us. If you miss a class you must make up that class in another Foundations curriculum or schedule a 1-on-1 session as make up. You can choose from two morning or evening classes during the week. There will be an extra charge for the makeup: we NEED you to take this VERY seriously and make all your classes, even with a makeup charged class and taking into account unlimited WOD’s after your second session this amounts to about $10/class, well worth every penny. See our ‘Prices’ page for more information on pricing.
